A Posthuman Grimoire: exploring current and potential relationships between witches/wicca and posthumanism

Posthuman Feminism

One of the key links between Posthumanism and Wicca paganism is the focus on Feminist values and the exploration of inequality and the idea of human being identified by 'man'. Braidotti explored Posthuman Feminism in The Posthuman by first identifying Humanist Feminism and the ideas around embodiment and power, calling movements towards this Feminism "a radial critique of masculinist universalism (...) still dependent on a form of activist and equality-minded Humanism" (Braidotti, 22). Braidotti criticizes the gender spectrum and Humanist notions that allow Humanist Feminists to conform to the binaries of humanism and forget intersectional notions.

In a conversation about the role of anthropocentrism in International law Emily Jones identified the idea that Posthuman Feminism must be thought of in terms of Post-anthropocentrism, acknowledging that 'Man' is not only not the central figure in our species, but that he is also not the central figure in our world (Jones and Otto, 2). Feminist Posthumanism must pursue intersectionality on a broader scale than that of the 'human', looking to understand and fight for those who identify as queer, POC, disabled, or other than human.

Feminist thought is key to the pursuit of Posthuman ideals because its goal is to level the scales. Humanist Feminism believes that 'man' is on one side of the scale and 'woman' the other, Posthuman Feminism includes all of the other parts of Zoe (or even geos) that must be included on this scale for equality.
