Impact of the Legion in Spain

In this exhibit the map above shows the impact the Legion Condor had in Spain during the Spanish Civil War. The markers on the map serve as a visualization of Legion activity while in Spain. German planes dropped more than 21 tons of bombs and fired more than 4,327,949 rounds. The total number of planes assigned to the Condor Legion is estimated at 610. Among the other equipment used, there are: 91 20mm guns, 12 37mm guns and 71 examples of the famous 88mm guns [1]. The Legion Condor participated in all major engagements, including the battles of Brunete, Teruel, Aragon and Ebro. On Franco's orders, the Condor Legion bombed the Basque city of Guernica on Monday, April 26, 1937. This attack was considered the first major raid in the history of modern warfare on the defenseless civilian population, the motives are still a subject of controversy.
