We Can Do It? Alternative Views on the Women's Movement and Feminism

The image shows Rosie the Riveter in her war clothes, with the addition of red nails, and a wedding ring. Next to her flexed arms is written in bold blue: “Get The Power: The Power To Clean Anything.”  This was an advertisement from the 1940s, that uses the WWII Rosie the Riveter propaganda poster to create an entirely different message about women's role in society.  The advertisement indicates women's role is as homemaker.

Not all images inspired by Rosie the Riveter represent empowered women, the women's movement, or feminism. It is important to take note of all of the messages and views that Rosie the Riveter has inspired, even in modern times.
