Mark(up) Twain: My Citations
My Citations
The MTPO has an effective citation tool called "My Citations." Every letter and work can be cited (in some cases sections within the item, such as paragraphs or phrases can be cited) by clicking a "cite" button embedded within the text. This generates a list of citations in CMS style that can be printed or emailed. To support the new initiative to make the collection accessible to the public, the MTPO uses social media to promote the site (via Twitter). The extensive documentation of the digitization of the archive contributes to the site's general sense of transparency and emphasis on metadata. Though the MTPO archive is available for anyone to view (a point made clearly throughout the site), the emphasis on citation, metadata, and cross-indexation clearly points to the strong scholarly underpinnings of the project—this is a tool for academics, yet a place where Twain's enduring readership can be accommodated.
