Location and Quantity
Location and Quantity
Forming the largest category of organizations and represented by blue circles, synagogues and schools mark the centers as well as the outermost edges of the Jewish presence in Los Angeles. Represented by yellow circles, community and social service agencies form a spine of support with thin branches well-contained within the outermost edges. Represented by red circles, political, philanthropic and fraternal organizations concentrate mainly in the upscale areas of the county with a few along the edges.
Timing
Timing
Education and religious organizations were the first on the scene and were the first institutions to signal areas of notable numbers of Jewish households nearby. The appearance of community and service organizations suggests a maturity community, able and interested in assisting those in need. The steady and increasing appearance of political, philanthropic and fraternal groups point to a diverse and diversifying population.
