The Geography of Jewish Organizations over Time

One way to see Jews in the evolving landscape of Los Angeles is to look at the spread over time of Jewish synagogues, schools, community centers, charities and other organizations. Using addresses from local and national directories published between the 1880s and 2012, the maps on the following pages demonstrate a pattern of geographic expansion that followed the general development pattern of Los Angeles County and the specific patterns of Jewish settlement in concert with that development.

Follow the path below the map of Los Angeles County to see different versions of the location of Jewish organizations over time.
