The United Service for New Americans (USNA) was founded in 1946 through a merger of the National Refugee Service, the National Coordinating Committee, and the Section for the Foreign Born of the National Council of Jewish Women. Each of these organizations had worked with Jewish immigrants and joined forces to respond to the new immigrants that followed the Holocaust. The USNA helped Displaced Person find homes, job training, and jobs. USNA also assisted new immigrants by helping them learn English and becoming citizens. USNA was a constituent organization of the United Jewish Appeal. In 1954, USNA merged with other Jewish immigration organizations to create the United HIAS Service.
