Reading Memories/Motifs

Thank you for visiting this exhibit. Memories/Motifs can be read in a number of ways:
  • Follow any of the three paths that trace the transformation of an individual Holocaust survivor account through different media and over time. In the early postwar period Kurt, Irene, and Hannah each represented their own experience and a broader survivor experience for American audiences. Read and hear how their stories were told.
  • Explore the exhibit by theme or by media: additional paths highlight unique themes in early survivor narratives and new technologies that enabled American audiences to engage with survivor narratives in the immediate aftermath of the war.
  • Make your own path. By following the indicated themes or media forms, you can connect the stories of Kurt, Irene, and Hannah without tracing the transformation of their unique stories.
