This project is intended to support multiple modes of reading and viewing. For readers who prefer a more linear experience, the sequence of paths in the Main Menu offers a straightforward presentation of the project's three primary modes of critique, followed by a path focusing on representations of computers with regard to systems of surveillance. The media chronology also invites readers to survey all of the media sources in the project in chronological order, providing a sense of how depictions of computation evolved in Hollywood through time.
Readers are also encouraged to explore this project in a non-linear way according to their own interests and associations, perhaps partially inspired by the compilation video essays that are included in the project. Efforts have been made to minimize sequential dependence within and among paths. There is, in other words, no "right" way to traverse these materials. My hope is that a combination of linear and nonlinear exploration combined with the conjunction of reading and viewing will make this a productive investigation.
