Map of Mary's Adventures in Africa

Mary left her husband in London and traveled to East Africa. Once she arrived, she traveled throughout East Africa, meeting with any tribal leaders and sultans. Throughout her travels, she criticizes the views and actions of her male colleagues. A major reason for her making this voyage is because she wanted to connect with the women and children of East Africa, and she felt like none of the adventurers before her had. (Sheldon, 113)
