Flows of Reading: Engaging with Texts Erin Reilly, Ritesh Mehta, Henry Jenkins

A page from The Nicest Kids in Town

Flows of Reading incorporates a number of project-based activities designed to hone young readers’ critical analysis skills.

Flows of Reading: Engaging with Texts develops an expansive concept of transmedial reading and writing while simultaneously adopting a transmedial form.  Conceived as a kind of living workbook and including more than 200 videos, images and other media, the project encourages reflection on how reading matters in everyday life by crafting a series of exercises and activities for teens and their teachers.  The book ranges across a wide sweep of texts, including animation, graffiti, remix, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and Moby Dick and draws from the ongoing work at the New Media Literacies Project.  It serves as a companion effort to the print book Reading in a Participatory Culture published by Teachers College Press and the National Writing Project but ranges far beyond that text.
