Write/Right to Live

By Jayne Nkemateh

As long as I can remember I’ve been the wind underneath my sister’s butterfly wings.
There to help them fly, there to help them sing.
There to explain why sometimes things aren’t what they seem.

If my sisters ever need me, I’m just one call away. As the oldest sister, that’s my job.
And I don’t play!

I would roam through a forest, walk a thousand miles anything to assure my sister’s stay
well & alive.
The memories of who they were when they were young sometimes sweet like
strawberries or loud like a gong.

It depends on which day I caught my sisters they could be either one. I will say despite
the fights and the ups and downs, I could never picture my life without my sisters being
around.

I am my sister’s keeper and I will always be..
I hope to teach my future daughter to be her sister’s keeper too you see
I want her to be a reflection of light, I want her to be a reflection of love..

But most importantly as her sister’s keeper I want her to know the importance of praying
to the Lord above.

If I can do this, I will feel I did succeed, and this is what being my sister’s keeper means
to me.
