Whose Common: 1750-1850

Introduction

In the century between 1750 and 1850, the Boston Common transformed from an open pasture into a formal public park. However, the physical landscape was not the only aspect of the park that changed. Human relationships with the landscape, and with each other, evolved over the course of this period.

With the help of Historic New England, this digital project studies four artifacts in their Collections that portray imagery of the Boston Common.
