Fail? Good Luck!
A Wolf in Sheep's ClothingWhat if this gap is derailed? Or worse, co-opted. Hijacked! Within the context of art, we might consider the ways in which advertising agencies look to artist’s strategies in order to market products, for instance. But, this is different than having an artist design an advertisement or an instance whereby a corporation sponsors an exhibition by an artist who critiques the activities of that corporation in their work. These examples are just contradictions that are intended to gloss over the gap, “little gaps” that can be exposed with some critical reflection. Rather, the difference between the intention and its application happens inside the gap. A huge gap—a gaping hole!— that fundamentally alters the original intention through its realization, otherwise. But this is where things get complex, and more interesting. The gap that severs the relationship between realization and intention is not a failure. Rather, it is the endemic presence of success.
