Travel DNA!

Gracias! Merci! Thank-you for coming along with me on 'snap shot' of my travel experience. The traveling gene does not hit many people in my family, but luckily, for me, the traveling gene appeared in my DNA. I discovered this gene when I was younger, and like a baby yearning for his/her mother's breast, I yearned to go on adventures! I love traveling so much, that I started traveling locally, then when resources and age allowed me to span my wings; I started traveling the east coast. Moreover, I moved around the country to experience other cultures. Yes, I became a gypsy at heart. I took my first European trip when I was in my early twenties, right after September 11, 2001.
Exploring new territories became my number one priority. I sought out a career that required visiting other markets. In doing so, I was able to live in many parts of America and travel international as well. I had not realized how many places I visited or lived in by the rip age of thirty-nine. Each place I have been has its own beauty and lively culture. However, after many years "on the road," I settled down in the beautifully state of California. It probably comes as no surprise that I have currently changed my career from the cosmetic industry to the wonderful world of, yes, travel. I work for a French luxury travel company. You have most likely have heard of the company: Louis Vuitton. Every day I am privileged to talk to people who travel locally and internationally. We exchange our stories and experiences that happened when we are on the road. Always being on the move brings me the most happiness.
Thanks to this summer travel course, I was able to visit my happy place on two great real time travel day trips. They were fast, but they were powerful. The places I went were stimulating to all of my senses. The new sights, sounds, smells and tastes were music to my soul. We tend to be caught up in the daily grind and it takes effort to plan, prepare and set out on a journey. Moreover, I was able to revisit writing daily in my hand held journal. I have to admit, at first, my hand held journal reminded me of an unwanted pimple on my face when I was a teenager.  Nevertheless, unlike a pimple, I began to enjoy my hand held journal and reaching for it constantly.
I am a new travel writer and I am looking forward to continuing to sharpen my skills. I have always enjoyed reading travel-writing literature. I mostly was exposed to them from the magazines that were in the back pocket of the plane seats. I am guilty as charged; I would rip them out of the magazines and put them on my "must travel" list. Sometimes, my ambition to travel to the place would not come to fruition, but at least for the moment, I was able to vicariously live the experience via the literature. I was not aware that there are books on the subject available. I really enjoy our book: The Best American Travel Writing. The stories are interesting and I personally enjoy stories that incorporate history and humor!
I am so thankful that my awareness on travel writing has been awakening due to our class; however, I know we just scratched the surface. No expert am I, but I plan to continue to explore the pedagogy and if my work does not become famous, at least, I will have the literature to remind myself of the details as I age in the nursing home. Until then, I plan to keep traveling and keep writing!
