Toku Shimomura Diary 24

Dec. 25
The muddy ground was completely covered by snow which fell last night. IT was a beautiful cover of white cloth. It was a suitable sight for Christmas. Around noon it turned into a snow storm which lead to some extreme coldness. The dinner treat for us in number 6 was a mess hall number 7 at 4:30. The waiters and cooks were all dressed in the beautifully decorated dining room. The radio emitted melodies of Christmas carols. For a moment I forgot where I was. We happily sat at our family table. A Christmas program was held at mess hall number 6 at 7 p.m. Nearly ten performances were shown with Kazuo acting as emcee. Our three person choir act was included. At 9 p.m. Santa Claus appeared and gave presents to all of us. There was a severe storm outside and we were not able to walk with our heads up. But the gathering inside suited the day of the birth of the child of peace. It was a memorable Christmas day and we spent it joyfully.
