Toku Shimomura Diary 11

May 10
Rainy weather. Rained on and off. It was an unusual lunch. Roast beef. This is the first time we had meat since we were interned in this camp. At 2:30 p.m. there was Dr. Warren’s sermon. I felt lonesome because there was no special gathering for Mother’s Day. I shared “onigiri” [rice balls] with everyone. This was made by Fumi and entrusted to Reverend Thompson. After this I visited Ogishima san. I was treated with “oshiruko” (red bean sweet soup with rice cakes) and went to supper with them. After supper Ogishima visited our place. All of us talked together… I asked Reverend Thompson for a bucket and two chairs.
