Smoke Rises from Ulundi

The Battle of Ulundi (1879) marked the end of the Anglo-Zulu War. The battle marked the end of centralized Zulu opposition to British rule in South Africa and set the stage for the coming clashes between the British settlers and the Dutch Afrikaners -- and eventually for the creation of the racially hierarchical republic of South Africa.
