Under President Authement's leadership, USL developed 17 research centers, including the Center for Advanced Computer Studies and the New Iberia Research Center, upgraded to Doctoral II status (the first in Louisiana), and started applying academic admission standards to be more competitive in college recruitment, among many other accomplishments.
