12019-12-05T08:27:59-08:00Fourth Video Story: Beef + Argentina7Overview of the role of beef in Argentinaplain2019-12-15T14:08:36-08:00According to the restaurant Puerto La Boca, "When the Spanish first brought cattle to Argentina in the 16th century, Las Pampas must have looked like paradise to them. The 289,577 square mile prairie is seemingly endless and mostly flat, with a humid and temperate climate perfect for growing plenty of cow-friendly grass". The Argentinian culture corresponds into their food, which explains why a cut of steak in Buenos Aires is often described as "legendary". Although in my previous video stories I have been targeting red meat and its correlation with health, environmental, and ethical problems. I thought it's essential to share something positive about beef. In Argentina according to the New York Times, people consume around 129 pounds of beef per person per year whereas Americans consumed around 60 pounds of beef per person per year. When I studied abroad in France I made a friend. She was an exchange student like me, her name was Yulietta. She was from Argentina and made me realize how important beef is in Argentinian culture. She is my inspiration for this video story. Although beef is an important component of Argentinian culture, the new discoveries of its links health problems and government policies is slowing production. However, Argentinians still pride themselves on their beef. This video is more recent and provides optimistic hopes to beef providers in Argentina. Many policies and limits on exports have been lifted. There had been a 14 year ban on beef exports to the United States that had been lifted. Many providers are looking to sell internationally and there are options for sustainable beef production which some providers are dabbling in which is nice to see. This video was taken in Italy, but it is Argentina beef! Perhaps we will start to be seeing Argentinian beef like this since various export policies have been lifted. * sound in this video is kind of loud*
