Lots of Lena, But No Hannah

While the corporate-driven accounts are impressive, Lena Dunham's social following eclipses their stats five-fold, and a good deal of the sense of community and connectivity associated with the series' brand comes directly through its leading lady's accounts. Dunham's Instagram and Twitter accounts are so active, it's a wonder how she has the time to write, produce, direct, and oh right, star in the premium series. Equal parts production diary and personal stream of consciousness, Dunham's social media presence consciously promotes the show while also offering a seemingly no-holds-barred, authentic peak into her sometimes glamorous, sometimes "Stars — They're just like us!" lifestyle.

Given the deeply personal premise and style of the series, some might argue that Dunham's exhaustive and ostensibly genuine online persona would render Hannah Horvath's presence redundant, or a shadow of the real thing. Au contraire! Personally, I believe Dunham's proven ability to thoroughly communicate her persona and build a community through her social platforms only further proves just how far Hannah Horvath could go on the web.
