Meta Moment - Introduction to my Archival Anecdote

I wondered for a long time what approach I should take, and where my focus should lie when it comes to examining the university as an institution, but more specifically, to find an approach that grasped my attention and that would be engaging for an audience view of this material.  We spoke a lot during the semester about how the development and display of archival material, what different types are, and how they are constructed and presented.  For myself and this project, I tried to take take an anecdotal approach, to give context to the material that I am about to share.  My attendance at this university has had a little bit to do with my father attending, coming in 1970s for his master's degree in cultural anthropology.  This first section is my introduction, as well as an anecdotal piece that explains why I thought to focus on time period that I did with regards to the history of the Media Studies department, and how I went about narrowing down the information I was looking for.
Part of the reason I am beginning my project in this manner is so that I may have another lens through which to view my work.  By discussing my layers, I hope to a create 'meta' moment.  And by incorporating a little of my story and explanation, I hope to create a reflective moment, and to show some of my "seams."
The New School is an institution which prides itself on innovation and multidisciplinary practice, both of which are intrinsic to the the Media Studies department as well.  Throughout my discovery of the materials that I have unearthed, I found that these two truths were in fact present not only throughout our findings in the class, but specifically circled back in my own discovery of archival material.  I wondered about the decade of the 1970s, and how it was a formative year for The Center for Understanding Media, which was not yet affiliated with The New School.  Thus, I went looking for materials which spoke of the start of the program and was able to retrieve some interesting things.
