Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

This website is the project resulting for my senior capstone class. The goal of this project is to assist viewers in their reading and understanding of primary account of the Second Crusade. The account chosen for this project is Odo of Deuil's De profectione Ludovici VII in orientem, or The Journey of Louis VII to the East. The translation I am using is by Virginia Gingerick Berry.
There are multiple ways to navigate this site. The simplest way is to follow the blue button at the bottom of each page. This will take you through the book itself and will end at the bibliography. You can also navigate the contents by using the drop-down box in the upper left-hand corner. The compass drop-down box, also in the top left corner, offers different tools to help visualize the content of the site, the most useful of which is the "Tag" visualize, which shows the connections between pages and broad topics such as "military," and "symbolism."
Please enjoy the site!
