Courtyard/Garden

Courtyard and the garden

My contribution to the Whittier Mosque project is the courtyard and outside Garden. The courtyard will be elegant with all white and gold.  It will resemble the courtyard at the Sheik Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi, which is a masterpiece. The courtyard will not exactly look like the Sheik mosque, but it is just a concept and visual of what we kind of have in mind. The white will go well with the exterior of the mosque and the gold will resemble the decoration of the interior of the mosque. The arches and pillars will be surrounding the courtyard. The courtyard will be located in the center of the mosque according to the blueprint; it could be a passage to the other side or an open place for communities to socialize.

 The marble are known for
keeping the temperature cool, so it would be good for the southern California
heat. The area-surrounding courtyard with pillar will have shade.

As our project is focused on sustainability, the water in the fountain will be recycled from the
ablution center.  We are in drought so it
would be smart, to use recycled water. Keeping that in mind the water in the
fountain will only be turned on during the Friday prayer and on special
occasions. The courtyard can also be available to host different events.

The outside will be located in front of the mosque. The plants in the garden will be all native. The water will be
recycled from the foot-baths. Since we will be planting native plants they will not require as much water as non-native plants.
