Reclaiming Silences: The Vietnam War

Before U.S. Involvement: 1945-1965

 

The vietnam war, lasted from 1945 to 1975, was fought between North Vietnam supported by the Soviet Union, China, and other communist countries, and South Vietnam supported mainly by the United States and other anti-communist countries.

Vietnam had been a French colony since the 19th century, and during World War II, it was invaded by Japanese occupiers. In order to fight off Japanese and French occupiers, the political leader Ho Chi Minh, who dedicated communist, formed the League for the Independence of Vietnam, which was also called Viet Minh.
