Folder 1 (63 documents) - 1963-1967
Contents:
Telegrams, notes and memorandums covering a wide range of political topics relating to President Novotný, U.S. ambassadors to Czechoslovakia Outerbridge Horsey (1962-1966) and Jacob D. Beam (1966-1969), the Jordan Case and Czechoslovakian-Southeastern Asian political developments during the Vietnam War. The memos are largely focused on small political issues that affect Czech-U.S. relations. President Johnson is a prominent figure in most of these memos either as an author or the intended reader. The folder also includes a large amount of information about the case of an American Jewish businessman, Charles H. Jordan, who became lost in Prague and was later found dead in the Vltava River. Telegrams show that an increased KGB presence caused important Czech citizens to flee the country, and discuss planned economic measures projected to incite unrest among the Czech population.
