Laughing in the Face of Death
Just as the archive's mission is to explore the historical significance of comedy in archive and remix, the archive itself is a form of archive and remix. It's an archive of comedy, cultural history, and a remix of humanities that utilizes comedy in a different context in the form of a digital museum. This digital museum has the potential to be expanded into a live exhibit, textbook, conference presentation, or limited documentary series to fully explore the significance of these events, and to add more events to the collection.
If you look through the history of cinema and humanities, comedy has always been archiving and remixing these moments that have evolved through the swinging pendulum of war, social injustice, national tragedies, human rights, and freedom of speech. It's rare that an artform, such as comedy, can have such influence of this magnitude in culture. The preservation of social history through comedy is pertinent in bringing us closer to the true idea of humanity. Comedy is a driving force of culture and will continue to be, whether it is recognized as such or not... I think there's a joke in that somewhere.
