This ewer was made using earthenware clay fired at very high temperatures. The earliest blast furnaces were made in China during the Han Dynasty, before the technology had traveled to Vietnam. These furnaces could reach up to 2,800 degrees Fahrenheit. During this period, the kilns were made of natural materials. This ewer would have been decorated and glazed before firing.
