The craftsman of this necklace remains unknown, given that such artisans were usually anonymous in the Byzantine period. However, it would have been made by a goldsmith: someone who had been trained to worked explicitly with the gold, and who knew who to create thin gold wires. The gold might have been supplied by the patron, or it could have been purchased by the goldsmith.
