Composite Stechzeug - Who Made It?

Zachary Barney, Class of 2025, College of the Holy Cross

Jousting armor was made by armorers and blacksmiths who charged large sums of money to create sophisticated armor for the nobleman who commissioned it. Plate armor requires substantial expertise: for instance, armor covering the shoulders is manufactured in a scale pattern, using a series of separate plates in order to keep the joints flexible. The plates would fold into each other whenever they contracted and spread out when they were expanded. Any set of jousting armor would have been the prize of any noble's armor collection, and they would take great care to ensure that their jousting armor remained in good condition.
