The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood: Thinking Historically About Artistic Movements

Introduction

The goal of this project was to create a sub-module within the larger study of European Art in the context of a high school AP Art History curriculum. The global approach to the history of art in the AP program does not often allow for an in depth examination of specific art periods. In order to address this issue, this project seeks to aid educators and students by providing an introduction to the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood while simultaneously incorporating their historical, literary, and social contexts. There are discussion, reflection, and research activities that will push students to think and explore for themselves. In addition, educators can choose to modify or eliminate activities within this project to create a lesson curated to their needs. Whether the educator or student wishes to learn further, this sub-module on Pre-Raphaelite art exists to provide nuance to the global approach to AP Art History.
