The Book As

Robin Redbreast's Territory/Sculpture 1969, Jan Dibbets

Robin Redbreast's Territory/Scultpure 1969 was the result of Jan Dibbets' desire to push the boundaries of visual art by finding the most unconventional medium possible.

"This sculpture-drawing can never be seen in its entirety; only through its documentation can the viewer reconstruct its form in his mind."

Dibbets manipulated the birds'  territory by placing poles around the park for them to fly to and between. He looked detailed notes of every movement and placement of birds and poles, and illustrated them in the book.
