I include the Chinese character for clit 蒂 here to emphasize the current grassroot, self-initiated language reclaim that has taken off on Chinese social media platforms. It’s a movement to deconstruct and unlearn phallogocentrism in mandarin. Many users, including myself in my everyday writing, are intentionally reworking previously male anatomy-centered characters into female anatomy-centered. For example, instead of emperor 帝王, we say 蒂王. However, I also want to be aware of the caveat that this movement can bring back essentialism and biological determinism.
