The Beginning


          "Curious piece you got there...Technology has come a long way since the texts of old, hasn't it" spoke a gruff voice in a dark corner. His voice was cold, distant, yet it invited curiosity. I asked him to show himself nervously as I fiddled around with my tablet, looking for my emergency escape app. You know, just in case things turned lemony. "Let me tell you kid," the man spoke as he stepped forward into the lamp's illumination "that trinket you've got there..." Upon seeing the man, I was in shock and awe as his deep, gruff, intimidating voice emanated from his thin, frail looking body.

"It ain't much different from you and I"

        The man put his hand on the tablet, drawing concise little circles on the touch screen as he spoke. "Once upon a time I proved just that, that our brains and circuit boards were like brothers in arms...but oh it was too much for the world...too much for me." The man became awash with a sullen expression but that just drove my curiosity even wilder. I inquired further. "Oh but it's a long story for such an old man to tell, you must certainly have better things to do than listen to grandeur from a senile old bat like me." I shook my head. Nowhere to go, nowhere to be. In fact, it was nice to have company apart from my colleagues. He took a seat beside me, clasped his hands together and cleared his throat. "If you insist..."
