Taking on the Challenge

Introduction

We called this book ‘Challenge’ because of a Māori tradition called ‘The Challenge’ or Te Wero in Māori.

Māori perform a ceremony when visitors come to their Marae (home). Someone from the marae steps outside and places a token on the ground. If the visitor picks up the token, the local people know that the visitor is a friend and not an enemy.

We hope that you will pick up the token (metaphorically) and become our friends.  We hope, too, that you will find your new challenge an exciting and fruitful one.
