Beyond the Boundaries of Fantasia: An ancient imagining of the future of leadership

Step One: Meeting the players of the political games in the late Roman Republic (1:00)

Step one of the unit is a brief history lesson to explain the political structure of the Roman Republic and an overview of the major players in the conspiracy. Note: You do not have to know all the major details. Instead, we will focus on why Cicero was successful and Catiline was not, primarily through the use of rhetoric to demonstrate effective leadership. To listen for leadership in this unit, you will watch two short videos, read a short summary, and complete a chart comparing Cicero and Catiline while viewing and watching. Understanding the background will set the stage for step 2, where we look at what made Cicero persuasive as a leader. Helpful hint: Open the comparison chart first, and then watch the videos and read the short articles.
