Bessemer Continued
In the midst of such a historically distressing era for the
American working class the significance and gratitude extended from the Y’s
patrons for an amenity as grand and beneficial as the Steelworks Y was to the
laborers, immigrants, and community is remarkable. The assiduous and
hardworking legacy of the town of Bessemer was fortified with the erection of
the Steelworks Y. The town of Pueblo to this day embraces and edifies this
legacy, and bears an atmosphere which is chiefly recognizable in the Bessemer
neighborhood, an attitude that accurately emanates the consciousness of the
American dream, which is born from hard work, sacrifice, and dedication; these
encumbrances were dutifully embraced by the immigrants, and Americans alike
enabling for the success of the CF&I mill in Pueblo.
