SourceLab (An Idea)

More about its Uses: Who Benefits?

As members of a public research university, we see SourceLab as an initiative that should benefit society more generally.  And specifically, we're hoping our initiative may be useful to the public in two ways.

First of all, SourceLab itself will be an Open Educational Resource initiative.  We hope to produce our editions under an free culture license such as an Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License, allowing others to use, re-use, and even commercialize our efforts (for example, by producing for sale paper versions of them) as they see fit.  In this way, teachers, students, researchers, and members of the public will be able to employ our editions in any way they choose.

Second, not only our editions, but our organizational, curricular, and technological processes (as detailed in a SourceLab Handbook we are developing) will be made available, so that other institutions may use them or collaborate with us as they see fit.  Our aim is to build publishing into history education from the grassroots level up, and if that sounds interesting to you, let us know!

[good place to note benefits to participating students]
