About the Author

John Randolph is an Associate Professor of History at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  He specializes in early modern Russian History (1650-1850), with interests in Russian intellectual history and the history of imperial obligations.  From 2012 until 2015 he was Director of Undergraduate Studies in History at Illinois.  In the 2015-2016 Academic Year he will be a Faculty Fellow at the Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities.
