Tweeting Assignment
For the first fifteen weeks of the class, you are asked to actively tweet the equivalent of every day (approximately 60 tweets). Start with simple retweets of articles and candidate statements, then as you become familiar with the medium and have built a group to follow start to add your comments or thoughts to your tweets. If you already have a Twitter account you may use that or, if you prefer, set up an additional account to use for the class. You should follow each of your classmates and comment on each other’s class tweets (#socpolnyu). You are strongly advised to locate and follow advice online about the dos and don’ts of Twitter so that your tweets improve over the duration of the class. http://blog.sfgate.com/rheingold/2009/05/11/twitter-literacy-i-refuse-to-make-up-a-twittery-name-for-it/
Search for interesting people to follow, including politicians, bloggers, government agencies and so forth. Pay particular attention to finding people to follow who are not like you and who may have different political and social views. We’ll discuss details of this assignment in class. Due date for this assignment is November 30th by the end of the day. To assure that I see all of your tweets you will follow the instructions for using Storify to archive your tweets related to the class by the 30th. To add your Storify to a media page, Converts your Storify to a PDF and then save it to your desktop to upload as a local file.
I have included my own Storify of my archived #socpolnyu tweets.
