The Archives maintains collections of college publications and collections of photos, personal papers and college records.
Within these records can be found the history of student life at Saint Mary's College. Scrapbooks contain images of students playing and studying on campus from the late 1800s to the present day; private journals donated by alumnae provide insight into the internal musings of students as they progressed through their programs and made new friends; college bulletins lay out the rules and regulations that governed student life at different historical moments; and newspaper articles document the local and national concerns that occupied students' attention -- and sometime the students themselves became the subjects of those articles.
From these various pieces, we have constructed a site that provides some insight into what it was like to be a Saint Mary's student in the 1920s, the 1970s, and today. While some aspects of student life have changed dramatically (career ambitions and patterns of dress), others have remained constant (Saint Mary's students still like to dance and have expansive goals for influencing the world for the better through their activities).
The graphic above provides an overview to the contents of the site, and, by clicking on a node, you can jump to that part of the project. You can also navigate these contents through the menu icon in the far left-hand corner of the screen. We hope you enjoy exploring!
