Simpsons and Freudian Dream Theory

S4Ep3 summary

Homer's first dream begins with him as an infant in his mother's womb, where he is happy and warm.  His umbilical cord suddenly detaches and the amniotic fluid drains as a hand reaches up to pull him out.  He tries to cling to the womb and protests.  He wakes up to Marge trying to pull him out of bed.

Homer then dreams that he is watching tv when the house begins shaking, the pictures fall from the walls, and the tv screen flashes the words "uh-oh".  The hand of God reaches from the sky and tears off the roof, and God steps into the house.  He begins to yell at Homer for displeasing him.  Homer pleads with him, saying that he's a good guy, and loves his kids, and asks why he should have to spend his sundays at church.  God admits that Homer makes a good point, and tells Homer that even He dislikes going to church.  The two chat about how boring the sermons are, and God decides to give Reverend Lovejoy a canker sore.  He gives Homer permission to skip church before disappearing to "go appear on a tortilla in Mexico."

Homer dreams he is in heaven talking to God again.  In the background Benjamin Franklin and Jimi Hendrix play air hockey.  God tells Homer not to be upset that his new religion didn't work out because, "9 out of 10 new religions fail in the first year."  Homer asks God to tell him the meaning of life.  God resists and tells Homer he must wait until he dies, which will only be in 6 months.  Homer keeps begging and God finally agrees.  He says "The meaning of life is-" just before the credits roll.
