Simpsons and Freudian Dream Theory

s23ep13 analysis

This is an anxiety dream in which Homer is repressing his desire to sit on the couch all day, along with his knowledge that Marge has left him.  The couch is also a displacement of Marge, and this dream fulfills his wish both to get her back, and to maintain his lazy lifestyle.  The beatings that the couch endures after leaving Homer are a repression of the anger Homer feels at Marge for leaving him.
