From mortal or immortal
Hume, Patrick. Annotations on Milton's Paradise Lost London: Printed for Jacob Tonson ..., 1695. Print.
Music as been in all ages so justly admired, that after its first invention, it was intorduced early into the Service and Worship of the Gods, either as pleasing them, and asswaging their Anger, or as useful to calm and compose the Minds of their Adorners, and fix their Wandring Thoughts. The Immortal Minds here meant, are Spirits and Angels, principally those in pain.
