Atmosphere

Compare to traditional Twine games, Quing's Quest VII is unique in terms of creating a playful and involving atmosphere. The creator employs different elements in his work so that the players can fully engage in the game, which successfully delivers the reaction and emotion the characters have during their interactions. These delicate designations make up the disadvantage of a word game, which is the lack of a direct visual respond.

Visually, the author manages to add as many new elements as possible. He chooses to add sparkle light spots on a black background, which reinforce the background settings of this game -- an adventure after getting kicked out of one's planate. The colors and fonts are also bold and bright. In Chapter 2 of book Writer/Designer, the author pointed out that the colors are extremely helpful to emphasize in the visual art and elicit emotional reactions in audiences. The shifting of bright pink and neo green corporates with old-fashion fonts that were only seen in old video games directly call for the player's memory about past video games, which is related to the topic setting in this case. Acoustically, the background music is different in almost every single section of the game. The author had put in tremendous effort into drawing connections between the music and temporary emotion the characters have during their interactions. This design makes the player realize what kind of effects can be made on one's passion and mind for how they choose to interact with them. For instance, the author wants to play the song "Desafinado" by Stephane Grappelli & Baden Powell when the player decides to recall the old experience he/she had with the friend. Violin and guitar have given the jazz extra sense of nostalgia and joy, which fit perfectly with the mood of two friends reminiscing about their past. (Click the image for annotations)
