The Ice Storm

The ice storm came
And covered everything in ice,
Every tiny branch of every tree,
flowers wrapped in ice looking like perfect spheres,
a multitude of ice planets hanging from trees,
leaves preserved in ice and all their fragile complexity,
It tore down trees and took out power to the colonies.
And then after the ice storm came the cold,
it broke all the records.
The melted ice poles caused an arctic vortex,
polar winds escaping the ice caps, stretching tendrils across the planet.
They said these temperatures are more common to the red planet
than to ours.
