Rebecca, originally published in 1938, is a gothic novel filled with ghostly influences, grave jealousy, and dark corners. Our heroine is swept off her feet while on holiday in Monte Carlo by the mysterious Maxim de Winter, a widower, and taken to live with him in his estate, Manderley. The memory of his former wife begins to weigh on her, and the darkness unfolds. With this website we hope to explore the context of the book, the implications of it's publication, and the life of the author, Daphne du Maurier.
