If the Dance of the Dead and the Theater of the Absurd represent reactions of fear and anxiety to the new media environments of print and electronic technologies that are the result of trying "to do a job demanded by the new environment with the tools of the old," then Montaigne and the cellist, it would seem, are intended to represent living with the living, that is an attempt to do a job demanded by the new media environment with the tools of new media.

And so, the question remains, who is this cellist? The answer: Charlotte Moorman. And once we know who she is, the "undecipherable" becomes understandable.
