In perhaps the shrewdest move of this entire affair, Logan Paul posted a vlog explaining why he walked off stage during the U.K. press conference. However, the focus of the video quickly shifts from defending his own actions to condemning KSI. By placing himself in opposition to a seemingly misogynistic foreigner while simultaneously asserting that the Aokigahara incident is his singularly defined turning point, Logan Paul has completed his redemption before even stepping into the ring.
Notable moments:- 0:00: Roughly the first nine minutes of this video concern Logan Paul and his team acting as energetic tourists in the streets of London.
- Worth noting that Paul's team has apparently learned from the criticism of their actions in Japan and does not openly mock British culture.
- 9:00: Paul begins pointing out how one-sided the press conference was, blames the moderator True Geordie.
- As previously noted, Paul references True Geordie's viral response to the Aokigahara incident as evidence of bias.
- 10:28: Paul begins explaining that the primary motivation for his walking out was that the press conference was "all fugazi" and explaining that KSI is "the exact person [he] is working hard not to become."
- An unkind critic might take Paul's confusion with the word "fugazi" as the fact that this speech was perhaps written by multiple people, and planned out in advance.
- Again, this oppositional positioning plays into the post-colonial concept of Othering: KSI is everything that Logan Paul used to be before he become "civilized."
- 11:24: "Every single day, I am working to craft a better version of myself. And you are not." -Paul
- This sentence is where Paul moves directly into criticism of KSI's misogyny toward Paul's girlfriend Chloe Bennet. In this narrative, Paul frames the hostile crowd as KSI's mob, and himself as a helpless victim to it.
- 12:50: Paul introduces a text message his team allegedly sent to KSI's team expressly threatening to bring up KSI's problematic past.
- This all seems to stem not only from the press conference but also a comment about Paul "fucking [Bennet] like a prostitute" KSI made in a personal vlog.
- The message also references that there is some contractual agreement not to discuss KSI's past misogyny and sexual harassment, which seems dubious considering Paul continues to show clips of these incidents in his vlog and later on his diss track.
- 13:30: "But you didn't listen, JJ, and that's why I'm not going to sit there and talk about your disgusting sexual harassment issues in the past" -Paul. Smash cut to clips of KSI sexually harassing women at a gaming convention in 2014.
- By taking the time to justify his response before beginning it, Paul is exposing injustice without getting his hands dirty.
- 15:29: Paul takes a moment to address his own history with the objectification of women, specifically in the music video "No Handlebars."
- Another clever move by Paul; locating and containing an issue like objectification in a single media object allows Paul to exorcise misogyny through deleting an old music video. The audience also sees Paul himself delete the video in close-up, giving the action an undeniable air of authenticity.
- 16:12: In the video's final section, Paul addresses the Face to Face as evidence that KSI is delusional and less mature.
- "I recognize this type of behavior... you are me, moments before I flew to Japan." -Logan Paul
- 17:25: "You, my friend, are a stepping stone for me to get better."
- KSI becomes an object for Logan Paul to place in opposition to himself, all that is wrong with his past identity. In fighting KSI, Paul is communicating to his audience that he has conquered his demons.
