Both of Alice Bag's parents were born in Mexico, although her mother's family moved to Los Angeles when she was a child and her father grew up in Mexico. Alice's mother, Candelaria, strived to assimilate into mainstream American culture and considered herself Mexican-American, while her father, Manuel, rejected assimilation and never considered himself American.
